The Transition is a novel about a trans boy who is attacked by a werewolf and subsequently discovers that his body is undergoing a horrible new transformation. This story includes:
- Animal death. Two dogs are killed off-page without graphic description, the brutalized corpse of a coyote is is observed by two characters, and a bird is killed on-page.
- Several brief descriptions of dead bodies.
- Transphobia: targeted harassment, internalized transphobia, misgendering, deadnaming.
- Body horror undergone by trans individuals. This includes (but is not limited to) graphic injuries, unwanted menstruation, and other physical changes that mirror medical detransition.
- References to trans people who have died as the result of medical neglect and post-death outing.
- Multiple references to an incident of sexual harassment/assault.
- Suicidal ideation and rhetoric.
